Exhibition concept: Oldřich Palata
Graphic design: Eva Koktová
Oldřich Plíva has behind him long years of conscientious creative work. During his artistic career, he has achieved a host of noteworthy accomplishments in his sculptural treatment of a variety of materials but it has been glass that he has always cherished most. His glass sculptures are held in many prestigious institutions around the world. In the small exhibition on display in the museum’s foyer, this aspect of his art is documented in photographs and the sculpture Sold from the UPM’s collections.
However, the major part of the collection on view focuses programmatically on a much more intimate segment of his work. While these small items represent superb objects adorning a host of art galleries, they can also visually enhance both household and working environments, serving as distinctive sculptural pieces that bring out the desire to touch them and, through such immediate contact, fathom their mysterious atmosphere.
