The exhibition project Morface by the Glass Studio of Tomáš Bat’a University in Zlín presents a site-specific installation by the youngest generation of glass artists. The link between the theme of the Designblok „Youth“ is the contemporary view of figuration in its broader context.
Simple utilitarian shapes are decorated with compositions that are based on faithful body imprints of individuals. This creates the presence of a strong generational statement that reflects on its transformation or metamorphosis, confronting the public with bodily and even erotic motifs that cannot be seen at first glance. Thus, the boundaries of classical glass painting are crossed, applying industrially produced decals for consumer goods. The connection between this creative process and consumer culture is based on simple assumptions made possible by the cooperation with the largest producer of glass paints in the Zlín region: the company GDS Technology. The company produces decal paints for drinking glass. Their arrangement into various rotating shapes is a sign of inner restlessness, a tension that is characteristic of youth. The floral stylisation then suggests an optical connection with the interiors of the Museum of Decorative Arts exhibition spaces, which thus become part of the whole work.
