The Harrachov glassworks in Nový Svět in the Krkonoše Mountains holds a leading position among the manufacturers who have contributed to the fame of Czech glassmaking in the past. The first comprehensive monograph of this oldest existing Czech glassworks summarises the results of more than ten years of archival research and processing of Czech and foreign museum collections.
In expert texts and on selected examples from the production, accompanied by rich documentation, it presents in detail the artistic development of Harrachov glass from the Baroque beginnings through the countless forms of glass of the Biedermeier and Historicism periods, the original Art Nouveau expression and the efforts to adapt to the Art Deco and Functionalist styles to the new design approaches after 1945 and contemporary glass.
