At the end of last year the mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená made a generous offer to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. After consulting with the fashion designer Daniela Flejšarová, who has dressed her for the world’s concert stages for almost thirty years now, she decided to donate some of these dresses to the museum’s textile collections. For the museum this was an unexpected opportunity to significantly extend its existing collections of historical and contemporary fashion.
It is not often that two creative individuals from different fields can work together for many years in a harmonious and mutually beneficial collaboration. They are united in seeking a flawless artistic and aesthetic effect: an extraordinary voice and an extraordinary dress, or quite simply a concert for two senses. Those who love Magdalena Kožená’s performances have come to expect her striking visual presentation. These are not just stage costumes but remarkable dresses that sensitively reflect the music being performed while underlining the singer’s personality.
